Hi there,
Our team, 'For Luna' has decided to tackle the Stadium Stomp this year at the MCG. It’s 7600 steps! At this stage we aren’t entirely sure how we are going to make the distance but we will be doing it together and we want to make each step count.
Each step we take is in honour of little Luna Mary who was stillborn in March 22nd, 2019. No one should have to bury their child and the heartbreak and grief of all who love Luna and her family is palpable. So, we are climbing for you little one.
All money raised will go to SANDs (miscarriage, stillbirth and newborn death support).
In Australia 1 in 120 births will be a stillbirth or a newborn death. Up to 1 in 4 confirmed pregnancies end in miscarriage before 20 weeks. For families bereaved by the death of a baby during pregnancy or shortly after, few will understand the depth and extent of their loss. SANDs provides support, information and education to anyone affected by the death of a baby before, during or shortly after birth.
We know (as friends of Luna’s family) that we can’t take grief away, or ‘fix’ it. Walking up stairs won’t change what’s happened. But we can use this opportunity to acknowledge Luna and continue to show all the love we have for her, her mum, dad and brother.

Sands - Miscarriage Stillbirth Newborn Death Support
Each year in Australia, approximately 150,000 couples experience reproductive loss; about 147,000 experience a miscarriage, 1,750 babies are stillborn and about 850 babies die in the first 28 days after birth. For more than 30 years, Sands continues to provide support to all bereaved parents and families who have suffered the death of a baby anytime from conception through to 28 days after birth - this includes miscarriage, neonatal death, stillbirth, ectopic pregnancy and genetic/medically advised termination.
Sands are a self-help support group comprised of parents who have experienced the death of a baby. Sharing with others who have had similar experiences can assist parents to work through the often intense grief which follows the death of a baby.
